As you can see on http://www.elephant.se/location2.php?location_id=20 seven elephants were killed the 22 November 1943 during the bombings (and an eight, a bull, had to be shot after he came out in the zoo). I dont think those bombings were the first, and nevertheless the bull Siam survived until 1947 (he arrived 1933), so this "fact" is not true.
